Our Story

Permenter

W.S. Permenter was born November 21, 1928, in Shelbyville, TX, a son  of Wendell and Flora Fleming Permenter.

He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army following World War II. He began his career as a teacher, then became an active principal at several schools in Cedar Hill ISD from 1967 until 1980. From 1980 to 1985 he served as Superintendent of CHISD. Following retirement, he was asked to serve as mayor. Mr. Permenter ran unopposed and served two terms as mayor of Cedar Hill, TX from 1987 until 1991.

Because of his close friendships in both the school system and the city, he organized social events bringing the two groups together. Cooperation and support for all students and citizens continues to this day as the City of Cedar Hill and Cedar Hill ISD share not only a building, but a commitment to all citizens of Cedar Hill. His love of students and Cedar Hill continued until his death on February 28, 2007.

W.S. Permenter Middle School opened in 1989, and the legacy of excellence and unity lives on in our students and staff.
